Daryl, I have some experience with sulfur "pit" design in a refinery. Your estimate of the molten sulfur temperature appears low to me, btw. I know the melting point is as you say, but they keep the temp of the molten sulfur product much higher than that, because they need to account for temperature losses in pipe and vehicle transport. They typically collect this stuff in the pit right out of the alky-sulfur unit, for example, then pipe it over to a long-term storage tank next to a loading rack where they load trucks or train-cars with the stuff for long-range transport.Fellow engineers,I have a project involving a sulphur pit with a roof which is on the verge of collapse. I would like to have some help in the form of brainstorming to find suitable ways and means of carrying out an emergency repair. Any ideas, no matter how "wild and wooly" would be welcome.
