Fw: Staad 2007

Dear Mr. Bergsma,

Thank for your reply, We are trying to upgrade our old version of STAAD.PRO 2002, which unexpectedly stopped recognizing the old parallel port copy protection device, to a newer version, since your technical support department was unable to diagnostic the problem with the old lock.

As a Small Engineering Firm that do not need a full feature 3D analysis design program on a day to day or moth to month basis, more like one a year, we do not upgrade our software as frequently as we would like.

We are concern that your new server type copy protection will not allow to run the software after the service agreement ends, Could you verify that with at the end of your SELECT Agreement we will be able to use the installed version of the software or will it stop working.

Thanks,

Pedro Khouri

Dear Mr. Khouri,

Today I read your post ont he SEAINT server and was of course greatly disappointed.  My Name is Gus Bergsma and I am the Global Vice President of all structural products for Bentley Systems and the former owner of RAM International.  I want to assure you that Bentley licensing is not only robust and trustworthy but also offers the most flexible and creative use availability of any software licensing today.  In addition we have a supperb technical support team and I can show you numerous customer's compliments sent to me personally about our techincal support in just the past year.  I am equally dissapointed to read about Mr. Hunts's bad experience and I would love the opportunity to speak to him and others at Fluor who have experienced trouble with any of our products now or in the past.  And I will deal with that situation separately.

You should know that most of our structural software is sold to small companies.  While we certainly provide software to companies of all sizes, smaller companies make up the majority.  In any event, I would like the opportunity to contact you directly and try to help you and others in your organization understand clearly what options are available to you with Bentley Systems.  I am confident that you will find that we have relatively inexpensive solutions that can meet your needs better than any other software available today for structural engineers.

How would you like me to proceed?

Regards,

Gus Bergsma, P.E.
Global Vice President

Bentley Systems, Inc.

Pedro,

We dumped STAAD many years ago because of all its bugs and their customer support went to zero.  It was very sad because STAAD is a very robust program with many features.  For about 90% of our work we use RISA 3-D and for the few occasions where we need a nonlinear or time history analysis we use SAP.

We are a small Engineering company in need of a 3D analysis and design program, we have a old version of STAAD.PRO 2001and are considering upgrading to 2007, however we are getting concerns with the new subscription type copy protection (Bentley SELECT Program) as, due to our need, we do to upgrade that often. Our main concern is what happens after the year agreement end? Does the software stop working? The sale lady from Bentley says it will continue working but will not get the upgrades, however my partner doest not trust salespersons.

Are there other options for 3D analysis and design software for small Engineering firm? We are getting and "Special Discount: to upgrade for lest than what it will cost to buy from the competition in addition that I am familiar with STADD.

Thanks,

Pedro Khouri
