RE: knife plate in glulams

I get the values as follows, based on G=0.50:

6_3/4
Par: 4078lb
Perp: 1922lb

5_1/8
Par: 3650lb
Perp: 1772lb

These values are based on 2001 NDS as I could not find our updated 2005
NDS version (not sure if there were any changes). Also these values
should be larger than just doubling the single shear values for a steel
side plate. The controlling mode will changes since the 1/4" "main"
plate is in between two thicker "side" plates.

One glulam is 6 3/4" wide and the other is 5 1/8" wide. I am using DFL
glulams with 1/4" knife plates and 3/4" diameter bolts.
I get the following values (Cd=1):

5 1/8" parallel 3480#
perp 1670#

6 3/4" parallel 4080#
perp 1800#

All these values are higher than using twice the values in the NDS (PL1

/4" with 2 1/2" and 3" side members).
