Re: flagpole foundation

I don't know of any limitations prescribed in UBC. However, with such high load, I will look for alternative foundation instead of embedding the pole. I will ask for geotech drilling at the pole location and request Lpile analysis.

If the formula requires 46' embedment, the bending moment, in the pole, at some depth below the ground surface must be fairly large. I hope you are checking the structural capacity of the pole for that magnitude of bending moment.

does the flagpole foundation formula for non constrained conditions (1997 ubc, 1806.8.2.1, eq. 6-1) have a limiting conditions regarding loading or embedment?  does this apply fro high loadings resulting in deep embedments?  i have a condition with a 170K load at 4' above the ground surface resulting in 46' embedment.
