Usually there is a fatigue problem with crane girders and welding ends will
cause cracks. So I would also prefer continuous welding in any case with
fatigue.

Each end of a weld is a perfect place for crack initiation. The
fillet size is smaller, there's the possibility of arc strikes and
similar defects especially when the current is stopped suddenly.
Stitch welding makes more ends and greatly increases the possibility
of flaws and subsequent fatigue failures. Maybe you could make your
fabricator a counter offer that you'll buy the stitch welding if he
pays for the additional strength calculation and drawing changes and
does an LP or MP check on each individual weld.
