chronicled here on a few other occasions, the city we are working in is a
stickler for the drawings matching the field. Getting the drawings changed,
printed and re-stamped for the City was more trouble and delay than the
rebar cost.
In a larger context however, typos and other errors do occur, so getting
instantly snippy about a remark like "the footing looks too big" isn't
always wise. We're all human. Sometimes we peons in the field actually do
have a feel for this stuff that is borne out.
Another example. I had a drawing where a dimension line fell directly over
the callout for a header so that the "1" of 4x14 was obscured. I walk onto
the jobsite, (I'm the architect, not contractor on this one), look at a 4x4
holding up a kingpost to a ridge beam spanning a living room and instantly
know something is wrong...In this case, just a serendipitous drafting error
nobody noticed because on the monitor the colors differentiated and you
could see the "1" better than on the monochrome print.
Stuff happens.
