I have spent a lot of time creating spreadsheet for my design work. I
would like start using Mathcad but I did not want to to recreate the
work in Mathcad. I am trying to find out the what the possibilties are
before I dive into Mathcad.

Did you mean 'importing' Excel spreadsheet using OLE (Object Linking and
Embedding), or converting Excel spreadsheet to native Mathcad
spreadsheet.
