RE: Removing yourself as EOR

In Chicago, removing yourself as EOR brings the project to an immediate
halt, be it in
Permitting or construction; requiring complete re-permitting with a new set
of SE drawings; effectively staring over...really goofs up the owner and the
project.

But, if you are resigning from a project, there's very likely a very good
reason.

So, who cares?

I was EOR for a pole building contractor in Washington state. The
builder had a number of projects that I designed submitted to various
building departments around the Puget Sound area. I found out that the
contractor was modifying my plans after I sealed them. I immediately
sent off a legal letter to the contractor advising him of licensing laws
and essentially declining to continue our contractual relationship. I
encountered no legal problems. I then sent registered correspondence to
all of the building departments advising them what had happened and
noting that I was no longer EOR for any of this builder's projects. I
actually received compliments from the AHJ's thanking me for being
candid about the whole thing.

I experienced absolutely no difficulties in doing this (other than
getting a hard time from my boss - the builder was a friend of his!) I
didn't last much longer at that company.

Hello All,

I'm wondering if any of you have needed to remove yourselves
as the EOR on a project, and how the process went? How did
the building department handle this? At what stage in the
process did this happen?

Is it possible to remove yourself once plans with your stamp
on them have been submitted and a building permit issued?

If I need to be more specific in my question, then please let
me know.

Take care,
Lloyd Pack
