Re: welded wire fabric for columns

Thanks for the reply, Jim.  At this point, i've asked the architect to increase the diameter of these small canopy columns.  Apparently, the tightest diameter (available) of a spiral tie would reduce the clear cover.  I also thought the wwf would require a lot of lapping and cutting.  Thanks again.

                        I have used WWR for column ties, though only in very lightly loaded ones, nor were they CIP, only precast. I think as long as the mesh meets ACI 318 for ties, there are no issues. In seismic regions, this means the ends need to be anchored within the confined concrete, which means cutting a lot of wires.
