One thing that struck this morning as I was watching CNBC news was the claim that because of the retrofits and the new construction in recent years only 10% of the buildings in the LA area are subpar in regard to meeting current earthquake requirements. Meaning that 90% of the existing stock of buildings meets new code provisions! This may be true for small city of Chino Hills where the epicenter was, but definitely a misstatement for the LA region as a whole.
