RE: OSHPD Requirements for Surgical Lights

Paul,

Basically, the design of OR surgical lighting just follows the requirements of Chapter 13 of the ASCE 7-05 considering the lights as flexible, (2.5 increase), essential facility, 1.5 increase), and a hgih Sds for Southern California, (1.53 for this specific location). This gives you an Fp of 2.2Wp, (ASD). This is somewhat conservative as I am assuming a z/h = 1.0, (one story building), and I guess I could reasonably make it about 0.75 since the light is below the roof line. But, anyway, that is what I am designing the supports for.

Regards,

Larry
