RE: sloping beam at beam / column moment connection

Joseph,

Sloping beam to beam connection: wouldn’t that be covered by a ridge detail connection procedure? Whilst sloping beam to column connection, would be covered by a typical knee connection procedure. Both discussed in steel designers manuals, and connection design manuals, and books on portal frame design. From memory, moment, axial and shear forces are all resolved into appropriate components and given consideration by the procedures.

Also forces are generally resolved parallel and normal to the sections under consideration. So it may be possible to resolve the appropriate forces and put those forces into your connection design software.

But still maybe there is something missing from the published procedures.
