RE: SOLAR PANELS ON ROOF WIND UPLIFT DESIGN

Run them by hand, which is what I do. It is not a complicated calculation. You will find that the roof corners are highest, the edge 3' are next, and the internal sections lowest. For 110 mph wind on a two story residence, I am getting numbers of approx. 60 psf corners, 45 psf edges and 25 psf internal. The racking lengths and connection point locations can drive those psf values very quickly into 1 kip loads, especially when the installer wants to limit the number of roof penetrating connection points. Don't always rely on the computer. Running something like this by hand gives you a good feel for exactly what is going on.
