Re: Maximum concrete cover

No there is no such restriction on the maximum concrete cover in piles rather it will increase the pile capacity in friction as well as in bearing due to increased circumference and its cross-section area.

However to maintain the vertical alignment, the concrete spacers attached to out side of longitudinal bars will be 15 cm instead of 10 cm.

Having said that I will still suggest you to revise the design of piles for 60 cm diam, by increasing the diam of cage, the required longitudinal steel will be reduced considerably. It will be an economical option.

Subject: Maximum concrete cover

I have some concrete piles that designed to be 50cm Diam , with a cage of 30 cm, that means 10cm cover.

The contractor wants to use the cages but to drill a 60 cm diam pile, is there any recommendations for maximum concrete cover?

I'm afraid about cracks.
