I have played around with that spreadsheet a little, and I like
a most of it. If you want to make changes or see the formulas that make
the sheet work, there is directions in the readme file for copying an
entire sheet to a new workbook. The new file can be manipulated any way
you want.
The biggest problem that I have with the spreadsheet is the way
it interpolates wind pressures for sloped roofs. Because I haven't used
the spreadsheet in awhile, I am not sure that I can remember the problem
exactly, but as I remember the program attempts to interpolate between
roof slopes even though the charts in ASCE give a single value for a
range of roof pitches. I would verify a few designs by hand before
relying too heavily on this spreadsheet.
I prefer the spreadsheets written by Alex Tomanovich. You can
find them at http://www.seaofsc.org/Alex's%20Corner.htm. They are not
all written with the most up-to-date code, but the wind ones are close
enough that you can use them for most regular building designs.

Subject: Great ASCE7 spreadsheet
Good Morning,
I found a great spreadsheet on the SEAOC site which does some of the
grunt work in the ASCE7-05, like wind and seismic. The price is right
and it's listed as freeware. You can find it on the "software" link on
the seaoc site, or the direct link is:
www.seaoc.org/software/IBC-06-2.zip
I haven't looked at everything but I think I've found a minor mistake on
row 27 of the "EQ" sheet. I haven't modified it because the sheets and
workbook are protected with a password and the author doesn't answer
emails. If anyone is successful at hacking the protection, I would like
to know.
