RE: Seismic compression struts

You are correct.  CISCA references the splay wire and compression strut in "Guidelines for Direct Hung Ceiling Assemblies in Seismic Zones 3 & 4".  There were some studies a while back that indicated that the lateral drift was too great to reduce damage if splay wires were used without compression struts.

I believe the compression posts come from ASCE's reference to "CISCA for Zones 3 & 4" for installations in D-F buildings. I don't have a copy of that to verify current requirements.

Does the CBC 2007 (IBC2006) still require seismic compression struts for suspended ceilings? I cannot find it in the code?

Thanks
