Re: Maximum concrete cover

I can't cite chapter and verse, but I recall a couple of studies that showed once you went over 8-10 cm of concrete cover you started to increase the potential for surface cracking. Of course everything is relative. You wouldn't get the same level of cracking at 10 cm as you would at 20 cm. I would be careful about getting too much cover.

I have some concrete piles that designed to be 50cm Diam , with a cage of 30 cm, that means 10cm cover.
The contractor wants to use the cages but to drill a 60 cm diam pile, is there any recommendations for maximum concrete cover?
I'm afraid about cracks.
